Credit Repair
If you are being bothered by a creditor (s), your rights as a "debtor" are governed by the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. Most of the calls we receive are regarding the way in which a creditor may contact you. This area of the law is found in section 805 of the Act.
Thinking about paying someone to help you with credit repair? Most companies that advertise as credit repair companies are not worth paying money to. "You" can perform the repairs just as easily as a company can. Yes, it's convenient to hire someone to take care of it, but in the long run, it's better for you to understand your rights and how to handle the repairs yourself. By law, you are entitled to a free credit report every year from all 3 credit bureaus. You can only repair your report by using one of the reports from the credit reporting agencies themselves. You can't use a credit report from your mortgage company, car dealer, or one of those credit report websites you see on television. If you have questions about credit reports, please contact our office.
